Linux Medical Certificate Scanner Module

The Medical Certificate Scanner is a specialized module of the Scanbot SDK designed to automatically extract structured data from German medical certificates. It enables seamless digitization of paper-based certificates by transforming them into machine-readable data that can be directly processed by backend systems.

Instead of manually entering patient and insurance information, doctors’ details, and diagnostic dates, the scanner can read them automatically from a single image (ImageRef) of the certificate.
This helps reduce human errors, speeds up administrative workflows, and allows for fully automated processing pipelines in healthcare, insurance, and HR systems.

The scanner uses a combination of optical character recognition (OCR) and layout analysis to detect predefined fields and checkboxes on the document.

The scanner detects and extracts a wide range of structured data from the certificate, including:

  • Checkboxes

    • Initial Certificate (Erstbescheinigung)
    • Renewed Certificate (Folgebescheinigung)
    • Work Accident (Arbeitsunfall, Arbeitsunfallfolgen, Berufskrankheit)
    • Assigned To Accident Insurance Doctor (dem Durchgangsarzt zugewiesen)
  • Date fields

    • Incapable Since (arbeitsunfähig seit)
    • Incapable Until (voraussichtlich arbeitsunfähig bis …)
    • Diagnosed On (festgestellt am)
  • Patient information

    • Insured Person Age (Adult or Child)
    • Insurance Provider
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Address
    • Diagnosis
    • Health Insurance Number
    • Insured Person Number
