Release notes
v10.0.0 (October 2026)
Cleaner document scans
- Document Cleanup (NEW): Removes artifacts such as fingers, hole punches, staples, stamps, handwriting, and stains from scanned pages. Brush over the areas to clean, and the SDK removes the unwanted artifacts. By default, the SDK keeps text under the brush stroke intact. In the Ready-to-Use UI, the new Cleanup Screen opens from the Review Screen and provides undo, redo, reset, and an adjustable brush size. The cleanup button appears on the Review Screen by default, and you can hide it in the Review Screen configuration. For custom UIs, the Document Cleanup API exposes the same engine on Android and iOS. The Cleanup Screen is available on all supported platforms.
Scan damaged barcodes
- Barcode Reconstruction (NEW): Reads 1D barcodes that are damaged so heavily that no single readable line runs across the code, for example, scuffed, torn, or overdrawn labels. The scanner combines intact parts from several lines to reconstruct the missing data. Reconstruction supports Code 39, Code 128, EAN-8, EAN-13, and UPC-A. It is enabled by default and needs more processing time per frame. To disable it, use the
damagedBarcodeReconstructionoption in the barcode format configuration. Available on all supported platforms.
Run the Ready-to-Use UI in landscape mode and on large screens
- Landscape Orientation Support (NEW): The Ready-to-Use UI screens for barcode, document, and data capture adapt to landscape orientation and to large screens such as tablets, foldables, kiosks, and ChromeOS devices. Before v10.0.0, most Ready-to-Use UI screens stayed in portrait. After you upgrade, they follow the device orientation. On every platform except Web, you can still lock a screen to portrait in its configuration, but starting with Android 16, large-screen devices can ignore the lock, so portrait-only screens may appear letterboxed or misaligned. This release adds configuration options for landscape layouts and deprecates some existing Ready-to-Use UI properties, listed in the platform changelogs. Available on Android, iOS, Web, and all cross-platform frameworks.
Run the Scanbot SDK on Windows with the Python and C APIs
- Python and C APIs for Windows (NEW): The Barcode Scanner SDK, Document Scanner SDK, and Data Capture Modules run on Windows x64 and x86 systems, including Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2022. They provide the same Python and C APIs as on Linux and work offline. This version is intended for server, embedded system, and edge device use cases. It processes still images and camera frames that your app passes to it and doesn't include a pre-built UI. If your app needs a pre-built UI, use the UWP and WinUI 3 Barcode Scanner SDK. To get started, see the Barcode Scanner SDK, Document Scanner SDK, and Data Capture Modules documentation for Windows.
Also in this release
- Frame Accumulation in the Check Scanner: The Check Scanner reads the MICR line across several frames and returns the value that repeats, instead of the first result it can't prove invalid. An OCR error rarely repeats across frames, so a repeated reading identifies the correct one. The other data capture modules already use frame accumulation.
- Canadian and US Check Classification: Before v10.0.0, the Check Scanner assigned the wrong country to some Canadian and US checks. With this release, it identifies both correctly.
- German Temporary ID Support in the Document Data Extractor: The Document Data Extractor extracts data from the German temporary ID card (Vorläufiger Personalausweis).
v9.0.0 (July 2026)
Smarter, more reliable document scanning
- Document Straighten (NEW): Automatically fix distorted scans caused by real-world issues like curved book spines, folded or wrinkled papers, and captures shot on curved surfaces with our new document straightening. The moment a page is curved or creased, the text on it curves too, and that impacts the accuracy of a scan. Straightening restores straight text lines and recovers much of the lost accuracy, turning documents that would have been rejected into captures the pipeline can process on its own. This functionality works out of the box with no extra setup.
- Color Document Shadow Removal Filter (NEW): Even out uneven lighting with Scanbot's shadow removal filter so text stays legible in cases where poor lighting, like shadows from a hand or phone, fall across the page and flatten the contrast between text and background that OCR relies on to read it. This turns captures into backend-ready scans, extending reliable capture to the real-world conditions where customers struggle most all while preserving full-color fidelity for clean, professional-looking scans.
Faster, more accurate barcode scanning
- Improved Performance of 1D Product Barcodes: Boost scanning speed, accuracy and recall rate of small distant or blurry EAN and UPC barcodes with the 1D Blur Scanner. This is now enabled by default.
- Improved Data Matrix Detection: Experience better results on curved surfaces and partially obstructed codes.
Read more European IDs and OCR character sets
- More ID Cards Supported: Extract data from additional European IDs, including Italy, Poland, Romania, and Turkey, to be on par with existing German ID workflows.
- Improved Global Character Support: Enhanced OCR now supports Latin-1 Supplement and Latin Extended-A, enabling more accurate recognition across languages and special characters. Newly supported languages include Turkish, Italian, Polish, and Romanian.
Also in this release
- Updated Document Quality Analyzer Classification: Rate documents as Acceptable, Unacceptable, and Uncertain with the new simplified classification system that makes downstream processing more reliable. This is a breaking change from the previous algorithm that rated documents as Excellent, Good, Reasonable, Poor, and Very Poor.
- Cropped and Partial Document Detection: Detect documents that don't have all four corners using Scanbot's cropped and partial document detection; this functionality is ideal for real-world capture conditions.
